Feels good to be back at cricket: Brad Haddin

A couple of days after Hughes' funeral, the home team finally started preparations for the first Test against India starting December 9 and the seamers were seen bowling a barrage of bouncers in the nets.

"Yesterday was a very good day. We went back to cricket training. As simple as that," said the ... year old wicket-keeper. "We all went back to the game we loved. And it was a good day," Haddin said ahead of  Saturday's practice session.

"We just got back to cricket," he replied, when asked if the training session felt normal. "We can try to complicate it as much as we want, but we went back to cricket training.

Everybody did what he needed to do yesterday. We needed to feel that cricket hurt in our legs again.

"The next two days are about getting back to training. Getting that cricket feel back in your legs and getting that soreness that you get from miles from out training. From that point of view, the next two days are important to get that feel. On Sunday will be a big cricket day leading into the Test match on Tuesday."

Skipper Michael Clarke had put in some work at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Friday before he flew to Adelaide to join the team. Still uncertain about his fitness, Clarke practised with the team on Saturday.

"No, I haven't," said Haddin when asked if he was thinking about having to lead the team on Tuesday. "Michael had a good hit today. He is going to back up this afternoon, and be involved in our session. So I haven't thought about it to be honest."

"Michael's been strong for the team for a long time. I think he's a tremendous captain and we want our captain out there playing. All signs are that he's going in the right direction, and like everyone else, we want Michael out there leading our team in the first hour of play here in Adelaide," he added.

As much as cricket needed to be the central theme, talk did shift back to the events of November 24, when in the Sheffield Shield game between New South Wales and South Australia in Sydney, Hughes was hit by a Sean Abbott bouncer.

He died two days later, sparking an emotional outpouring  across the country. The Test series was rescheduled afterwards.

Haddin, along with David Warner, Shane Watson and Nathan Lyon, were all part of that match and witnessed the incident first-hand. Naturally he was asked about the fateful day and how the players were trying to move on.

"We get back to playing the game we love. I don't think we need to complicate it any more than that: you get back to playing cricket," he replied calmly.

"We all love the game. That's why we're all here now. It's a great game and been good to so many of us. Our job is to go and play cricket, and to enjoy that. We need the support of the Australian public and everyone leading into this first Test. We're looking forward to playing and we need the help of everyone to enjoy the moment and just enjoy the game of cricket."

On Friday, Warner had excused himself from the Australian team's training, although he had taken part in some team-bonding activities before the work-out began.

When asked about the opener's state of mind, Haddin said, "There was no pressure on anyone on Friday. There were no expectations on anyone regarding what you had to do or what you needed to get out of the net session. If you needed to take half an hour or ten minutes or five minutes, there were no expectations. It was all individualised and I didn't count how guys were in the nets."

Ali Fazal shocked to find his fake profile on a matrimonial site

What perplexed him the most was that the profile had true details of his personal life, suggest sources.
A source says, "He was shocked to see his profile as he has not registered himself on that site. Apart from his pictures, exact details of his education career, residential address, etc. have also been listed on it. He is now trying to figure out who might have created the profile."

The actor says before taking any legal action, he wishes to confirm if it was a friend pulling a prank on him or some fraudster trying to mislead people.

"Initially, I found it funny but later realized it could have serious repercussions. I assumed that my friends must have done it because they were the first to inform me about the profile. However, I am now sure they have not done it because I have received a few queries (from prospective brides’ families)," adds Ali.

The actor is now trying to get in touch with the matrimonial site authorities.

"I have been busy for film shoots and a play, but would like to find out what is their process of verification for creation of a profile. Only then will I decide my next step," he says.

Richard III's DNA raises questions over royal succession

The genetics and genealogy research led by the University of Leicester discovered that the male line of descent is broken at one or more points in the line between Richard III and Henry Somerset, 5th Duke of Beaufort (1744-1803).

This provides scientific evidence for the first time of a possible question mark over medieval lines of succession in the monarchy, the researchers said.

Critically, there is no evidence whatsoever on when the break occurred, however, it is statistically far more likely that the break in the male line occurred lower down the chain - and therefore not affecting any Royal lineage – including that of the present day.

Historically Royal succession has taken a number of twists and turns over the centuries and is not based on straight linear inheritance, researchers said.

However, the research does pose a question mark over where the break might have occurred - and the potential implications for the historical monarchy.

"There are one or more breaks in the chain from Richard III to Henry 5th Duke of Beaufort," Professor Kevin Schurer said.

Robust Sino-India ties in the interest of United States: Richard Rahul Verma

"Much like the United States, the Indian relationship with China has elements of cooperation and elements of competition. But Prime Minister Modi himself has said that he wants a strong and healthy relationship with China," Richard Rahul Verma said at the Senate Foreign Relations Committee during his confirmation hearing on Tuesday.

"It's very much in our interest to see these two countries have a healthy relationship," he said. The Indian-American noted that "although there will be disagreements from time to time between the countries but again, to the extent these are resolved peacefully...I would say the Prime Minister has set out on a very positive footing in reaching out to China".

Commenting on the border issues between India and China, Verma said, "There is a dialogue on border issues when they occur. And again, the economic issues are important to both countries. So anything that we can do to ensure that the dialogue remains open, that trade and connectivity remain strong."

"Premier Xi's visit to meet Modi after he became the Prime Minister coincided with the flare-up along the India-China border and there was a lot of confusion about why the incident took place when such an important meeting was underway," he said.

The Indian American told lawmakers at the Senate that it has been "fascinating to watch" over the last year when India's Look East policy has become Act East policy.

India services PMI jumps to five month-high in November: HSBC

A figure above 50 indicates that the sector is expanding, while a figure below that level means contraction.

"Service sector activity grew in November, as new business rose for the seventh month running," HSBC Chief India Economist Pranjul Bhandari said.

The survey further said that notwithstanding the strong order flows, business sentiment slipped to the weakest level since mid-2007.

"Despite the uptick in order flows, business sentiment deteriorated, reminding us that continued policy action that addresses investor concerns is needed to sustain growth momentum," Bhandari said.

Meanwhile, the headline HSBC Composite Output Index, that maps manufacturing as well as services sectors output also climbed to five-month high of 53.6, up from 51.0 in October.

Growth of activity and new business had little impact on service sector employment in November as workforce numbers in the Indian service sector declined for the first time in four months.

Meanwhile, prices dipped on falling commodity prices and increased competition.

Calls for a rate cut had been growing in the run up to the policy announcement, with Finance Minister Arun Jaitley also pitching for lower the cost of capital to boost growth.

However, RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan on Tuesday kept interest rates unchanged, saying a shift in stance is 'premature' but hinted that a cut may come early next year if inflation continues to ease and the government acts on the fiscal side.

Jaitley had recently said a whole set of second generation reforms would be unveiled in the next Budget and added that his immediate target is Insurance Amendment bill, Coal Ordinance and the GST bill.

TMC MPs stage protest against PM Modi, Amit Shah with red diaries

"We have given a notice for suspension of question hour, we want a discussion over this issue," Bandhopadhyay said.

"In a raid by CBI, from Sahara's office a red diary was recovered in which Amit Shah's name is mentioned," he said.

The MPs wanted to know from Prime Minister Narendra Modi what action has been taken against the BJP president whose name allegedly featured in a red dairy recovered from Sahara chief Subrata Roy's office.

Earlier on Sunday after Shah's rally in Kolkata, West Bengal Panchayat Minister has said,''Recently Sahara chief was arrested and a red diary was recovered. We heard Narendra Modi and Amit Shah’s name features in the diary. What action has been taken against them?”

Subrata Roy was arrested on February 28 this year and is still behind the bars.

TMC leaders also alleged that the Centre was using the CBI to settle political vendetta.

"If Mamata Banerjee has the guts then why is she not saying that those arrested by the CBI in the Saradha scam are innocent? Earlier it was only alleged, but now it is proved that TMC leaders are involved in the scam," Shah said.

Dubai to invest USD 32-billion to build world's largest airport

The proposed new airport will become the world's largest aviation facility on completion and will have five runways which all will be simultaneously operational, all A380-compatible with a length of 4.5 km each.

"We are planning a USD 32-billion brand new airport at the Dubai World Central at Al Maktoum, 30 km off the present Dubai facility. In the first phase, the new airport will be able to handle 120 million passengers, which will go up to 200 million by 2020, when the project is completed," Dubai Airports Corporate Communications Head Julius Baumann told.

"On completion, the new airport will be the world's largest airport, with each concourse the size of seven football fields and have five runways which all will be simultaneously operational, all A380-compatible," Baumann said.

The other features include 200 aircraft stands for wide bodied aircraft, four concourses connected via six airport trains to two terminals, which in turn will be linked to the city's metro network. When complete, the mega-hub will have total annual capacity exceeding 200 million passengers and 12 million tonne of freight.

The existing Al Maktoum International opened its doors to passengers on October 27, 2013 and three airlines are operating from here. It has one A380 capable runway, 64 remote stands, one cargo terminal with annual capacity for 250,000 tonne and a fully operational passenger terminal building designed to accommodate 5 million passengers annually.

The Dubai International Airport is the world's second busiest airport after the London Heathrow and is on course to become the global  aviation hub, thanks to its geographical location and the availability of cheap fuel.

The first phase of the new airport includes a single A380 compatible runway, a passenger terminal with capacity of 5 million passengers which is expandable to 7 million; a cargo terminal with a capacity of 250,000 tonne per annum and expandable to 600,000 tonne and a 92-metre air traffic control tower.

The state-owned Dubai Airports already operates the Dubai International Airport in the heart of the Arabian megapolis and the Al Maktoum International Airport at the upcoming Dubai World Central (DWC).

The DWC is a 140 sq km new international city being built to de-congest the present city, Dubai Airports' Marketing & Corporate Communications Manager Zaigham Ali said, adding the work on new airport will begin early next year.

Apart from the new airport plan, the Emirate is also expanding the Dubai International Airport with a USD 7.8 billion investment to take the capacity to 100 million by 2020. This project was started in 2011 and will be completed by 2016.

The expansion of the Dubai International include a new concourse (Concourse D), expansion of Terminal 2 to twice its current capacity, refurbishment of Terminal 1, and additional aircraft stands, taxiways and aprons among others.

Dubai International, Baumann said handled 66.43 million passengers in 2013, and has being growing 15.5 per cent per annum since its launch in 1960. In 2013, it was named the
second busiest airport in the world after the London Heathrow. Ali said India is the largest source market for the airport, with an airline network that connects Dubai with 18 cities in the country.

In 2013, the airport saw a 14.3 percent increase in passenger numbers from India at 8.5 million and in the first 9 months of this year, the number has already crossed 7 million.

Ali added the company is confident of crossing the last year's mark this year. Explaining the rationale for a gigantic new airport, Baumann said the airport's forecast figures for unconstrained passenger traffic show 126 million passengers by 2020, and 300 million passengers by 2050.

Additionally, the Terminal 2 will double in capacity by 2015. Concourse D of the airport, slated to open by mid 2015, will provide for 100 more aircraft and taking the figure up to 80 million passengers. In all, the expansion projects will take the airport's  passenger capacity to a little over 100 million passengers, Ali said.

With a built-up area of 1,972,474 sqm, the Dubai International Airport comprises three terminals and ranks among the world's top two busiest airports for international passengers, serving over 125 airlines flying to over 260 destinations, as per the Airports Council International.

On the economic impact of the aviation sector in Baumann, quoting an Oxford Economics report said, aviation will contribute USD 53.1 billion to Dubai's economy, which is 37.5 percent to its GDP and will support over 750,000 jobs by the turn of 2020.

The aviation sector as a whole contributed USD 26.7 billion to the Dubai economy in 2013, which was almost 27 percent of the national GDP and supported 416,500 jobs accounting for 21 percent of the Emirates' total employment.

Passenger traffic in September totalled 5,942,628 compared to 5,407,326 recorded in the same month  last year, an increase of 9.9 percent. January-September rose 6.2 percent to 52,422,547, up from 49,379,165, while in 2013, the passenger traffic stood 66,431,533, up 15.2 percent from
2012.

Eradicating terrorism would be a difficult fight: Singapore PM

"The threat of terrorism can cause doubts and sow division between communities but multi-racial Singapore has avoided this danger because its people are rational and have looked at the facts squarely and forthrightly condemned extremists," he said.

Lee said he was particularly grateful to the city state's Malay-Muslim community, especially its leaders, who have maintained this position.

The Prime Minister also noted that the Mufti and the Religious Rehabilitation Group have done a lot to counter the ideological propaganda of Islamic State (IS).

"The Government had to do what was necessary to protect Singapore," Lee told 300 religious and community leaders of various faiths at the start of a closed-door dialogue on the threat posed by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

This includes producing a brochure "The Fallacies of ISIS Islamic Caliphate" in English, Malay and Tamil, as well as two online videos to point out these fallacies and why the brutal methods employed by ISIS are against the teachings of Islam.

Lee stressed that extremist terrorism is a serious and difficult long-term problem. The last such dialogue was held in 2011, according to media reports today. In 2011, the Jemaah Islamiyah had been reviving its network in the region, noted Lee.

"You must know that eradicating terrorism is going to be a difficult and long-term fight," he said.

"We have to carry on doing it and provided we continue to work together, and we are open to each other, and we share and we come closer together, we will prevail."

Lee said that terrorist elements in Southeast Asia are  regrouping and getting more active, as the conflict in Syria and Iraq morphs into a civil war.

He said that people from Southeast Asia and around the world, including a few from Singapore, are also travelling to Iraq and Syria, to join IS.

"It is naive for us to think that we can keep our heads low, and the problems will pass over us," said Lee. "We have got to do what is necessary in order to protect Singapore and Singaporeans,"he added.

Singapore would also join over 60 countries, including many Muslim countries, in the coalition fight against IS. Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs, Yaacob Ibrahim, has also called for a regional voice to condemn IS.

I am excited to work with Tabu: Manoj Bajpayee

"I am excited to work with Tabu. She is a wonderful actress," the actor said.

The yet-to-be titled film will be directed by debutant Mukul Abhyankar and co-produced by Neeraj Pandey.

Meanwhile, Manoj is busy promoting his next film "Tevar", produced by Boney Kapoor, and says he has lot of expectation from this film.

"I have a grey shade in 'Tevar' and I have enjoyed the role. I have worked with Boney before in 'Bewafa' which didn't work well at the box office but I am expecting a lot from this film," he said.

“The kind of films I am doing lately is great. This is the best phase now and I am getting more active about my films," he added.

'Children of War' to re-release in Bangladesh on 12th December

The film, a dark tale on the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, did a good four-week business in the country during its initial release early this year.

Directed by newcomer Mrityunjay Devrat, the movie has an ensemble cast of actors Victor Banerjee, Raima Sen, Tilotama Shome, Farooque Sheikh and Riddhi Sen.

"We got a thundering response to the film in Bangladesh. Distributors had told me that people were shouting and chanting 'punish the culprits' inside theaters after the screening. This kind of feedback made us proud and on popular demand, we are re-releasing it on Victory Day of Bangladesh, that is December 16," Devrat said on sidelines of ongoing event IFFI.

The film was screened here in a jam-packed theater last evening. It was released in India on May 16 this year.

The young filmmaker said he chose a sordid saga of Bangladesh partition as his first film because he felt this way he could pay back to his country.

"Right after my birth in India, my parents took me to Bangladesh. This was the country where I first went to school... I was brought up there, I could feel the pain of people. So, I felt it was a payback time to the mati (motherland)," he said.

The director also revealed that revisiting the past through the film was a tough call because people of Bangladesh don't want to recall the horrific time.

"Nobody wants to remember a bad past. People of Bangladesh are reluctant to speak about the issue which they are very sensitive about. They had distanced themselves from the pain. Those who opened up on the issue often got angry while narrating the incidents of genocide," Devrat said.

To get the facts right, the director read various books on Bangladesh Liberation war including 'The Unfinished Memoirs' by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, 'The late President of Bangladesh' and many other books which were banned by Pakistan.

Devrat said he does not want to show anybody in bad light through the film and that films are just a medium to generate support from the people to get justice.

His next project will again deal with the core issues of humanity.

Maharashtra government to track tribal welfare fund outflow

"With a budget of about Rs 11,000 crore that we have at our disposal for welfare of tribals in our state, we release huge funds for the development of the community. The tribal welfare department provides funds to departments like health, education, PWD, etc, so that they can run development schemes in tribal areas," Tribal Development Minister Vishnu Savra said.

"However, when I did a review of the department, I found out that there is no mechanism in place to monitor the money alloted to different departments. We don't know how the money is spent. We have, therefore, planned to set up an authority to monitor these works," Savra said.

They are also thinking of appointing an officer in each of the departments to which the tribal welfare ministry allots money, to keep a tab on the spending of funds, he said.

Efforts are being made to appoint IAS officers for certain underdeveloped areas in the state to take official charge of the administration there, he said.

"There are 129 locations in the state where our department runs welfare schemes for tribals. Out of these, 11 locations, including Melghat which is known for having a large number of malnourished children, have been classified as 'sensitive'," the minister said.

"No IAS officer is willing to work in these areas. They seek transfers soon after being appointed there. I want to change this mindset. We need officers in such areas to take care of administrative responsibilities," Savra, a six-time legislator, said.

Several schemes of the previous government have become outdated, but Savra said he is committed to maintain the trust shown by the tribal community in BJP.

"Our priority is to discard outdated schemes floated by the previous government. We are not interested in making people dream of prosperity while they remain in poverty. Our priority is food, shelter and employment to the tribals so that the faith shown by them in BJP is not lost," he said.

Savra was referring to a failed scheme under which tribal women were trained to become air hostesses.

"There is no need for such populist schemes. I will focus on enhancing the tribals' lifestyle instead," he said.

The newly-appointed vice-chancellor of BHU here on Thursday said that any decision on whether to hold students' body or student council elections at the varsity would only be taken after thorough discussions with faculty members and students.

Addressing a press conference, Tripathi said that his emphasis would be on creating a productive environment at the varisty and improving its global ranking.

Several students were arrested by Uttar Pradesh police while five hostels of BHU had to be vacated when violence broke out last week in the sprawling campus over a demand for the holding of student union elections.

The BHU students union was dissolved in 1997 as a result of large-scale violence. Since then, for nearly 10 years, the campus has had no students' union.

In 2007-08, a students' council was formed in place of the students' union. But students' groups have for long been demanding restoration of the students' union.

Tripathi said a speedy and fair probe would be conducted to find those guilty for the violence on campus even as he added that it has to be seen that the future of innocent students, who were not involved in the violence, is secured.

Omar Abdullah unfit for CM: Congress

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday hit out at Congress for trying to take credit for all the good work done by NC-led government and described the attitude of the party as the highest example of 'opportunism and falsehood'.

"We thought Omar Abdullah is young and energetic and that he can deliver well. However, we were wrong. He was unfit for such a prestigious position. What has Omar Abdullah achieved in these 6 years?" Congress spokesman Salman Nizami said here on Thursday night.

The spokesman said that to hide the failure of his government on every front, Omar was making false accusations against the Congress.

"This government did no good to the constituencies we represent. Our (Congress) constituencies were discriminated," he said.

The Spokesman said that the Congress is the only party which is committed to equitable development of all the regions of the state.

"The people have to make a right choice in these elections," he said.

3 Army men, 3 civilians among 10 killed in Jammu attack

The dead also included four heavily armed militants who were holed up in a bunker after they were suspected to have infiltrated into Arnia sector from across the border in Jammu district to carry out a fidayeen attack.

At least one militant was still taking refuge in a bunker and the encounter was underway, police said, adding that tanks were also deployed in a possible step to blast the bunker. The bunkers are abandoned and used only during war.

Modi is due to address a rally tomorrow in Udhampur district, which is 100 km from Arnia. The attack also coincided with the SAARC summit in Kathmandu attended by Modi and his Pakistan counterpart Nawaz Sharif.

"3 civilians have lost their lives along with 3 army personnel, my condolences to the families. 4 militants have been neutralised in Arnia," Chief Minister Omar Abdullah tweeted.

"The timing of the attack in Arnia can't be a coincidence," Omar said, adding "Some things will never change, SAARC summit is on, Ind & Pak PMs (sic) at the same venue and a fierce encounter breaks out in Jammu."

Omar said all police nakas along the National Highway in Jammu and other sensitive locations have been put on high alert and the situation is being closely monitored.

"As per initial reports from the area, a group of four to five militants infiltrated into Arnia belt from across the border this morning and resorted to firing," a police officer said, adding the security grid of Army, BSF and Police swung into action and launched a cordon and search for the militants.

An Army official said the militants changed their dresses and wore combat uniforms near a bridge and resorted to firing before entering two bunkers of its 92 Infantry Brigade at a security embankment in Pindi Khattar belt close to the IB.

Security personnel recovered the belongings of militants that included their dresses, blue coloured belts and shoes, an Army official said.

A car has also been seized from the area which might have been used by the militants, the official said.

The official said that militants had either come in this vehicle to carry out the attack or were supposed to take it after infiltrating into Indian territory and take the National Highway route as part of their terror plans.

Inspector General of BSF, Jammu frontier Rakesh Sharma, however, ruled out infiltration of any militant group at the IB in Jammu sector, saying no breach of fencing was seen anywhere.

Companies garner Rs 7,000 crore via NCDs in first 8 months of this fiscal

In comparison, firms had collectively raised Rs 15,022 crore via 12 issues in the April-November period of previous fiscal. Most of the funds have been raised to support working capital requirements and for other general corporate purposes. Firms, including Shriram City Union Finance, Kosamattam Finance, SREI Infrastructure Finance, ECL Finance and Muthoot Finance, collectively raised Rs 6,928 crore via NCDs in the current fiscal through 18 issuances, according to data from Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi).

This is more than the initial target of Rs 2,900 crore. Market experts said fund raising via NCDs has been less, compared to the year-ago period as companies have preferred QIPs and rights issues.

Moreover, many companies are looking to raise funds via initial public offers (IPOs) as investor confidence has returned in the equity markets after the formation of a stable government at the Centre.

Individually, Shriram Transport Finance Company raised Rs 1,975 crore against a target of Rs 500 crore; IFCI raked in Rs 1,225 crore against a base size of Rs 250 crore; Muthoot Finance mopped up Rs 466 crore against a target of Rs 250 crore; and ECL Finance garnered Rs 400 crore against Rs 200 crore.

Moreover, SREI Infrastructure Finance, Shriram Transport Finance Company, Kosamattam Finance, Muthoot Finance, Muthoot Fincorp and Muthoottu Mini Financiers tapped the NCD route more than once. In the previous fiscal, about Rs 42,383 crore was generated through 35 issues of NCDs.

I want Karan Johar to direct me: Neha Dhupia

The 34-year-old 'Phas Gaye Re Obama' actress is a fan of Johar's films and wants to be directed by him in a glossy entertainer.

"I feel lucky that I got to work in Dharma Productions film. It is fantastic to work in Karan's production and I love his films. He is on my wish list of all those directors I want to work with. I love his glossy entertainers. I would love to be directed by him in such a film. I really liked his 'Student of The Year'," Neha said in an interview.

Johar was one of the reasons Neha signed 'Ungli', directed by Rensil D'Silva and co-starring Emraan Hashmi, Kangana Ranaut and Randeep Hooda.

"I had more than one reason to be a part of this film, it has a fantastic producer, an amazing director and a lovely cast. Emraan, Kangana and Randeep are such chilled out people and it is easy to bond with them. We all are easy going people so it was a lot of fun on the sets. I am glad to have done 'Ungli'," she said.

The film is also special for Neha as she is playing a journalist for the first time on the screen. "It was not an easy character as there is a specific way of how journalists present news. They speak in monotone, without showing emotions, which as an actor I found difficult to achieve because we are used to expressing emotions in every line but here I had to be indifferent even if I was giving news of someone's demise," she said.

Neha, who has been a part of critically acclaimed films like 'Ek Chalis Ki Last Local', 'Delhi Heights' and the more recent 'Ekkees Toppon Ki Salaam', said she chose films on the basis of story and her role.

"Box office success matters but I feel years later when people would watch your film on DVD; they would not care if that movie made 100 crore or more but would just notice your performance and how good the film is. For me that matters more. Box office is a bonus," she said.

Neha's next after 'Ungli' is a Punjabi comedy film 'Double Di Trouble', co-starring Bollywood veteran actor Dharmendra. The actress, who has a special appearance in the movie, loves doing comedies and would like to play a role where she is required to enact dry humour.

"I think I can do comedies really well, especially the ones where I have to be humorous with a straight face. I am really funny in real life but my kind of sense of humour is poker-faced, it is not over-the-top. I would like to do something like that," she said.

One in six smartphone users victim of cyber attack: Study

The study also found that 60 percent of smartphone users and almost half of tablet users are vulnerable to hacking as these devices have no protection against malicious software.

These can be anything from phishing emails, which could result in a fraudster taking over an online account, to 'session hijacking' attacks where a user's web browsing is interrupted, monitored or even hijacked, Yorkshire Post reported.

Many smartphone and tablet devices users have no protection against 'malware', software designed specifically to damage or disrupt a system.

This is despite nearly half using mobile phones for internet banking and one in three for online shopping.

"This year has proved a tipping point for smartphones and tablets," said Ori Eisen of Experian, a global information services company, which published the study.

"The rapid rise in demand for online banking and retail combined with very little security on devices has created a massive opportunity for cyber criminals leaving many people and businesses extremely vulnerable," said Eisen.

Tata Motors to launch trucks with auto gear shift

The company, which has over 60 per cent market share in the domestic commercial vehicle sector, is currently developing on its own the AMT technology. AMT has recently been introduced in various passenger cars, including its sedan Zest as well as Maruti Suzuki's small car Celerio.

"We are looking to provide AMT technology in products like the Prima trucks, Xenon XT pick up truck and light commercial vehicle Ultra. These are expected to hit the market in the next financial year," Tata Motors Executive Director Commercial Vehicles Ravi Pisharody said.

Tata Motors is working to develop the technology indigenously in order to keep the costs down, he added.

"We could have done it with imported aggregates but we are developing the technology with our suppliers so that we can provide it at an affordable cost," Tata motors Head Engineering Commercial Vehicles AK Jindal said.

When asked about the benefits of AMT technology in the commercial vehicle space, Jindal said: "It gives better fuel efficiency than a manual transmission and clutch life also increases, which leads to more savings for the consumer. Also it is great for drivers."

Auto gear shift vehicles have the flexibility of both manual mode and auto drive mode in the same unit, with a simple shift of gear lever.

Tata Motors, which has completed 60 years of manufacturing at its plant here, here is also working on developing liquefied natural gas (LNG) and dual fuel powered vehicles.

"I have always said that CNG is not the fuel for the commercial vehicles. Its availability is an issue. Companies like IOC and GAIL are keen to work with us on the LNG fuel. We are in the process of getting clearances and we would have a product ready and running in the next two years," Jindal said.

Besides, the company is also developing duel fuel vehicles which would run on both CNG and diesel, he added.

Ford's new F-150 to get 26 mpg, tops among pickups

The Ram truck is the current leader among pickups, getting up to 25 mpg on the highway with a gas engine. The Ram gets up to 28 mpg with a diesel engine; Ford doesn't make a diesel version of the F-150.

Fuel economy is a key selling point for the new F-150, which is arriving at dealerships this month. Ford shaved 700 pounds off the weight of the truck by switching the body from steel to lightweight aluminum, a dramatic change for the best-selling vehicle in US.

Some analysts thought the truck might even top 30 mpg after Ford's multi-billion dollar investment to develop and produce it. The final figure met Ford's expectations of a more modest improvement, and represents 13 per cent greater fuel economy than the current F-150.

With gas now averaging USD 2.84 per gallon, the aluminum F-150 will save the average buyer only USD 100 to USD 200 a year in fuel costs over competing gasoline models from General Motors and Chrysler, said Larry Dominique, president of the ALG auto forecasting firm.

Doug Scott, Ford's truck marketing manager, said the majority of truck customers aren't solely focused on fuel economy. The new F-150 beats its rivals in both towing of up to 12,200 pounds and payload of up to 3,300 pounds.

Dominique agrees that buyers will focus on the total package. "The payload, the towing. Those aspects of it plus a little bit better fuel economy is definitely an increased value," he said.

DNA-based memory can record multiple inputs

Such 'designer' cells might be used to monitor water quality in a village or measure the amount of sugar a person eats, they noted.

"Building gene circuits requires not only computation and logic but a way to store that information. DNA provides a very stable form of memory and will allow us to do more complex computing tasks," explained bio-engineer Timothy Lu from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge.

In synthetic biology, genes are engineered to regulate each other's expression in such a way that they can perform logic operations similar to those in computer circuits.

In previous synthetic-biology attempts, data storage has been laborious to create. It also recorded only the presence or absence of one particular sensory input, and could be used only for limited applications.

In latest research, Lu and his colleague Fahim Farzadfard describe how they can record many types of data simultaneously and can register the accumulation of the input over time the way a car's odometer counts distance.

The stored information can then be read out by sequencing the DNA. They dub their method Synthetic Cellular Recorders Integrating Biological Events (SCRIBE).

"It is a nice addition to the toolbox which could complement other memory-storage techniques," Jerome Bonnet, bio-engineer at the Centre for Structural Biochemistry in Montpellier, France, said.

Saudi Arabia to launch work-at-home programme for women

The programme has been designed to support the work of Saudi women in a way suitable for their family conditions and conservative nature of Saudi society, Xinhua cited Fahad Al Tukhaifi, undersecretary in the labour ministry for special programmes, as telling the Al Sharq Al Awsat newspaper.

The programme was launched four years earlier, but was not fully implemented as it did not tackle the legislative, organisational and technical requirements. The programme is expected to create new job opportunities for women as well as individuals with special needs by enabling them to work without going to their workplaces.

These jobs will cover many sectors including telecommunications, travel agencies, IT, marketing, public relations and journalism.

Obama reiterates ASEAN investment, pledges to strengthen ties

In a short statement ahead of a US-ASEAN summit, Obama was upbeat about the strong relations between the two aides and vowed to work on the ties beyond summits "on a day-to-day basis".

"We are very much invested in building the capacity, not just of individual nations but between nations so that together we can become stronger and more capable to meet regional and global challenges ahead," he said.

"The United States is committed to strengthening the ASEAN both as an institution and as a community of nations bound by our shared interests and values," he added. Obama also pledged to work with ASEAN on a range of areas, including security, trade, Ebola prevention, education and disaster relief.

Obama's visit to Myanmar, which began on Wednesday, is seen as significant given the Myanmar government's recent reform efforts.

Following reforms launched by the Myanmar government in 2011, the European Union and countries like Canada and Australia lifted sanctions imposed on Myanmar. The US has suspended sanctions but not lifted them entirely.

Processes for inking FTA underway: Philippines assures India

The assurance was given to Prime Minister Narendra Modi by Philippines President Benigno Aquino during their bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the India-ASEAN and East Asia summits here.

India has formally signed the long-pending pact with the other nine southeast Asian nations -- Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Modi in his address to the 12th India-ASEAN summit yesterday had urged that the FTA on Service and Investment be brought into force "at the earliest".

The services agreement will open up opportunities of movement of both manpower and investments. The pact will allow India to leverage its competitive edge in the areas of finance, education, health, IT, telecommunications and transport.

This will be especially helpful for balancing India's deficit with ASEAN countries in trade of goods. The India– ASEAN agreement on trade in goods was operationalised in 2010.

It seeks to liberalise trade in services and bilateral investment, building on their existing free trade agreement (FTA) for goods and covering a combined population of 1.8 billion.

The current India-ASEAN trade is around USD 81 billion and a target of USD 100 billion has been set for 2015.

The FTA will help provide a commercially meaningful market across ASEAN for India's professionals, including those from the IT/ITeS sector.

The deal was signed by India in New Delhi after Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman cancelled her visit here on August 26 to initial the pact as she was preoccupied with the launch of the inclusive banking scheme, Jan Dhan Yojana.

The deal has instead been signed by circulating the text around the countries involved.

"We will add 3-5 people more at the office in Gurgaon," he said.

The Stockholm-based firm has more than 85 million users who utilise the app to search contact numbers, block spam and identify incoming calls to their mobile phones.

"We will use the funds to also expand our platform and work on enhancing the product to ensure the product works well even in areas with bad or slow network," he said.

Atomico founder and Skype co-founder Niklas Zennstrom will also join the board as a special adviser.

Talking about other growing markets, Mamedi said it is seeing tremendous growth in other emerging markets like the Middle East, Brazil and Africa as well.

He said there has been a significant increase in name and number searches on its platform with monthly searches nearly doubling from about 800 million six months ago to more than 1.5 billion currently.

Dhoni sole Indian on Forbes' most valuable athlete brand list

Dhoni is ranked fifth with a brand value of USD20 million in 2014, slightly down from USD21 million last year.

Forbes said Dhoni signed bat sponsorship deals with Spartan Sports and Amity University in late 2013, reportedly worth a combined USD4 million annually, up from the USD1 million Reebok was paying previously.

Forbes's Most Valuable Athlete Brands in Sports lists 10 athletes whose endorsement income exceeded the endorsement income earned by their peers by the largest amount during the past year.

James tops the list with a brand value of USD37 million in 2014.

The NBA's biggest marketing star pulled in a total of USD53 million from endorsers like Nike, McDonald's, Coca-Cola, Upper Deck.

The publication said for the first time since 2007, the top athlete brand is not Woods but James, who will be rejoining the Cleveland Cavaliers after fours season and two National Basketball Association (NBA) titles with the Miami Heat.

James pulled in USD53 million off the court during the past year and his brand is worth USD37 million, which is the amount his endorsement and non-basketball earnings exceeded the average top 10 off the court earners in the NBA.

Woods is ranked second and has a 2014 brand value of USD36 million.

Woods' earnings took a hit after Electronic Arts announced in 2013 that it would end its relationship with him and his eponymous video game after 14 versions.

On the third spot is Federer, whose brand value in 2014 is USD32 million.

The list also includes Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt (6), Portugal and Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo (7), Argentine professional footballer Lionel Messi (9) and Nadal on the 10 position.

The list is part of Forbes Fab 40, which consists of the 10 most valuable sports brands in businesses, events, teams and athletes and quantifies the earning power of each brand relative to its competitors.

The most valuable sports business brand is Nike, worth usd19 billion. Sporting event brands are based on revenue-per-event-day.

The top event brand is the Super Bowl, which last season generated an estimated USD518 million in revenue from broadcasting, tickets, the halftime show, concessions and licensing.
The Super Bowl has been the most valuable sporting event brand in each of the six Fab 40 rankings we have compiled since 2007, largely due the record television ratings and advertising rate the game generates, Forbes said.
Professional baseball team New York Yankees is the most valuable team brand in sports, worth USD521 million.d list

1st ODI: Crisis-hit West Indies thrash India by 124 runs

The Caribbeans, who were on the verge of boycotting the ODI, rode on Marlon Samuels' career-best equalling 126 not out to post 321 for six and then shot out the Indians for 197 in 41 overs in a rather one-sided contest at the Nehru Stadium.

India paid the price for some mediocre bowling and shoddy batting as they were outplayed by the crisis-hit visiting team in all departments of the game to suffer a heavy defeat.

Indian bowlers gave away too many runs at the second part of West Indies innings to allow the visitors pile up a big total after being put into bat and then the much-vaunted home batsmen, except for Shikhar Dhawan (68), failed to fire on a batting pitch.

Most of Indian batsmen were out on poor shot selection and they could not stitch any substantial partnership in the face of some tight bowling by the visiting bowlers, the highest being the 49 in 8.4 overs for the opening wicket between Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane (24). Dhawan's scratchy 68 came from 92 balls with the help of nine fours.
Ravindra Jadeja (33 not out) was the other Indian batsman who scored more than 20 runs.

West Indies, even without their mystery spinner Sunil Narine, could tie down the top Indian batsmen who failed to get the runs when required.

Chasing a huge target of 322 for a win, India could not get to a good start as Rahane was run out in a bizarre mixed-up in the ninth over with just 49 on board.

Rahane tapped the length ball off Ravi Rampaul on the pads between short fine leg and square leg and after taking the first run quickly, he wanted a second and continued to run hard. But, Dhawan went back after taking a step and both found themselves at the keeper's end and Rahane had to depart for the dressing room.
Virat Kohli (2) continued his struggle for form and even on a batting pitch, he could not do much and got dismissed the next over after facing just five balls. Kohli defended a Jerome Taylor delivery which held its line on the backfoot with an angled bat and the outside edge flew to Sammy at wide slip for a low catch.

Ambati Rayudu (13) looked like he would settle down for a partnership with Dhawan but lasted just six overs before he was out in the 16th over.

India were in a spot of bother when Rayudu was out at 82 for three but the home side's chances of a win was dealt a blow after in-form Suresh Raina was dismissed for a duck three balls later off the bowling of Dwayne Bravo.

Raina, who hit a match-winning unbeaten century for Chennai Super Kings in Champions League Twenty20 final a few days ago, got an inside edge which knocked off his bails.

India were still in a chance till captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was at the crease but it was not the day for the 'Master Finisher' as he was bowled by Darren Sammy for an uncharacteristic eight runs from 21 balls.

Runs dried up in the middle overs with the West Indies bolwers spot on in their line and length and propped up by some good fielding. By the time Dhoni was out in the 26th over, the asking rate had gone up to over eight with half of the batting line up cooling their heels at the dressing room.

Dhawan kept one end intact before he was out in the 29th over but after departed it was as good as over for India. Jadeja stretched the end of the match along with the lower order as the Indians batted for the sake of formalities only.

For West Indies, Dwayne Bravo, Ravi Rampaul and Marlon Samuels grabbed two wickets apiece while Jerome Taylor, Andre Russell and Darren Sammy took a wicket each.
The squads:
West Indies: Dwayne Smith, Marlon Samuels, Darren Bravo, Denesh Ramdin, Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard, Darren Sammy (Captain), Andre Russell, Sulieman Benn, Ravi Rampaul, Jerome Taylor
India: Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Virat Kohli, Ambati Rayudu, Suresh Raina, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (Captain), Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Amit Mishra, Mohammed Shami, Mohit Sharma.
