Earlier on Thursday, Chief Judicial Magistrate Narender Kumar extended the judicial custody of Vedpal (the accused) up to 20th February.
According to the prosecution, Vedpal, who was among the 22 people issued non-bailable warrants for their alleged involvement in five incidents of gang-rape during the Muzaffarnagar riots, was arrested at Phugana village on January 24. After his arrest, Vedpal was sent to 14 days judicial custody which ended on Thursday.
Six cases of gang-rape were registered against 27 people during the riots in which 22 people were found guilty. While Vedpal was arrested, 21 others have been absconding.
Over 60 persons were killed and more than 40,000 got displaced in communal violence in Muzaffarnagar.
